The small, charming and beautiful coastal town of Karon with its
spectacular beach and hilly background is just a quick 10 minute
drive from Patong Beach (and about 50 minutes from Phuket International
Airport). The town itself is, for the most part, centred towards
the northern end of Karon Beach in the vicinity of the Karon Phuket
traffic circle.
There is a good selection of restaurants and shops in this area
and several banks. Karon Beach itself is a beautiful, wide white
sand beach that stretches about 8 km and is suitable for swimming
and sunbathing. There are no hotels or resorts directly on the beach;
most are set just across the street along Karon Road (a wide, three
lane affair) with the rest being situated on one of the many side
streets off Karon Road (no matter, access to the beach is rarely
more than a 3-5 minute walk).
Whilst there are a good number of fine hotels in Karon there are
not nearly as many as in Patong and as such Karon is quieter, more
relaxing and great for families. FYI, in order to remain objective,
hotels are listed in alphabetical order. We don't favor any hotel
for any reason.
